You’re making me blush.
How lovely are these?!

One of my favorite candles is Modern Alchemy’s Speakeasy. I luv the smell of woodsy pipe tobacco and am always on the hunt for something that is close to it. Speakeasy is nice but it is always sold-out plus $50 for a candle is a bit too pricey for me. I’m so glad I took a chance with Arlo Jacob’s “The Courlander”. As soon as I read the description I knew this was the candle for me annd it’s $38, not a bad price at all!
Hand-crafted with the essence of my grandfather’s 75 year-old tobacco recipe. Now you, too, can enjoy his signature combination of blended tobacco, anise seed, brown sugar, and a pinch of dried plum.
This candle is much sweeter and milder than Speakeasy. I actually enjoy it more and I can really smell the notes of the dried plum. It is a very nostalgic smell for me, smells like my grandfather’s wooden cabinet where he had stored his wine gobblets and silverware.
Definitely a nice gift to a dude or someone like me that enjoys the smell of pipe tobacco.
*I also like Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille Parfum but gulp, $495?!?! I have a vile of it that I use sparingly. I recently bought Viktor & Rolf’s Spicebomb(1.7 oz for $75) that smells similar. It is the closest to Tobacco Vanille and I feel is more of a unisex scent than a men’s cologne.
From the past two weeks…
It was hot hot hot a couple of weekends ago when I helped out my friend from Peanut Butter Dynamite at the Renegade Craft Fair. I think I devoured 6 of those popsies our two days working at the fair. I was able to do a little shopping for myself on Sunday and got two rad hanging air plants from Bird and Feather, a spine ring from Verameat, and truffle salt.
Check out Miran’s shop, she and her mother make the cutest pillows and rugs you will ever find!
We decided to stay out in LA and not have to deal with driving back and forth from, Long Beach(me) and Santa Ana(Miran). We stayed in a boutique hotel in Downtown and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice and clean the O Hotel was. For just one night it totally met all our expectations. Our room was clean, the staff was soooo nice and friendly, and the restaurant downstairs was actually pretty good. They also have a pretty decent free continental breakfast for those that are wondering.
This weekend was just relaxing. I visited the family, went to the farmer’s market, and did my best rendition of “Michael Phelps” in the pool. Let me just say I have mad respect for all our olympians. I mean I was OUT OF BREATHE after just 2 laps! (and we are talking about small laps, lol!)
and just because he looked soooo darn cute sitting there on my mantle yesterday:
