Band of Horses

A few weeks ago I got to see one of my all time favorite bands, Band of Horses, perform at the Nokia Theatre in Downtown LA. The newer venue is home to the Grammys and all that cheesy stuff. I personally prefer smaller, more intimate venues but the Nokia Theatre is new, clean, and nice.

Unfortunately my camera was not able to snap any amazing pics but I swear I was standing pretty close and they sounded awesome. They played many of their old songs and a few new ones from the upcoming album. Ben Bridwell is my southern comfort.

Lemonade: a movie about laid-off creative minds and how they’ve redirected their lives.

Like many other countless creatives out there, I too was a “casualty of the recession.” At first I was surprised when I was given the pink slip since my boss had told me on numerous occasions that my job was secured. All I can say is me being laid off had been a blessing in disguise. It made me start my own company and now I am my own boss with my own hours and I am happy.

Lemonade is about starting over and getting inspired. I will definitely see the movie when it comes out!

Dead Man’s Bones

So I  spent Halloween with Ryan Gosling this past saturday… well okay, me and a few hundred people. The sold-out show at the Echo was one of the funnest shows I’ve ever attended. The music is downright eerie, fun, infectious, and a joy to listen to. Think Arcade Fire meets Nick Cave by way of Disney’s Haunted Mansion.

A local talent show takes place before each performance in place of opening bands. The Apple Sisters and Alexander Burke & Eban Schletter were our local talents for the night. Usually the L.A. Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir sings with DMB but since it was Halloween they managed to wrangle their friends and a few kids to sing. Gosling not only sings but he also plays guitar and piano while his partner Zach Shields switched between guitar, drums and backing vocals.

I highly recommend seeing Dead Man’s Bones, you will not be disappointed!
