Cavalier

Just loving the look, design, & photographs of Cavalier.

Cavalier Essentials is a line of vintage products designed for the rugged, yet sophisticated gentleman. Cavalier was always briefly explained as–“If Steve McQueen carried a beat-up leather duffle bag on the back of his motorcycle; what would be in it and how would the products look?” This simple idea married an appreciation for lifestyle design and vintage accessories. All of the products possess a hand-made quality while responding to the modern influences of today’s culture.

Cavalier is designer Taylor Pemberton’s project and I cannot believe he is only 21 years old! Whoa, what a talent. Read more about him here.

The Morning Benders Releases EP For Japan Relief

The Morning Benders have released an EP, titled Japan Echo.

100% of all proceeds from the sale of the record will be forwarded to Japan Society Earthquake Relief Fund. Chris Chu released this statement about the disc:

“Last week we were scheduled to go to Tokyo to play our first show ever in Japan. It was going to be a very special trip for us, and for me in particular. I had always dreamt of going back to Japan to play music. Not many people know this, but I was actually born in Japan, and although I only lived there for a couple of years, I’ve always had a deep love for the country and its people. I cannot express how sad and helpless I’ve felt reading about everything that is happening there right now, and even though we couldn’t be there, we wanted to do everything we could to help. We love you Japan.”

Any amount helps plus you get some sweet songs in return! Go here to donate what you can.

The tracklist to the EP is below:

1. Cold War (Star Slinger Remix)
2. Better In Blue
3. Hand Me Downs (Wild Nothing Remix)
4. Excuses (RAC Remix)
5. Mason Jar (Twin Sister Remix)
6. Wet Cement (Aislyn Remix)
7. Little Riot
8. Promises (Star Slinger Remix)

We Are Trees

If Grizzly Bear and Fleet Foxes had a baby you will get We Are Trees. Okay, strong statement there but the similarities are pretty evident. Sure lead singer James Nee’s voice sounds eerily close to that of Grizzly Bear’s Daniel Rossen, but there is something else that draws me into the luscious sounds of this four-piece band from Virgina Beach. Perhaps it’s Nee’s calming voice and all the layered harmonies that starts off slowly, builds up, and finally punches at you. Check out both Boyfriend and Girlfriend EP on their Bandcamp site, the sound is incredible.

One Nation Under Cinema

This is pretty cool, however, this t-shirt graphic by Scott Schneider is only on a limited run on RIPT Apparel and unavailable anymore.

I think there are a few errors though, like Misery took place in Colorado and not in Maine and I believe upper Michigan and a few other states are missing?? I’ve read some reactions to his graphic as “being stolen” from another illustration:

I dunno, I think he got the idea from it but he made this graphic his own. What do you think? I think it’s still a pretty cool graphic.

Portlandia

IFC’s Portlandia has got me in stitches lately. How in the world did I just find out about this hilarious show?!

You can watch Fred Armisen (of SNL) and Carrie Brownstein (of Sleater-Kinney) school us on the absurdity of living in Portland, Oregon on IFC or watch episodes on Hulu.

Lush was such an awesome band. I still remember buying Gala 20 years ago on vinyl when it came out. Oh how I use to dream of singing and playing guitar like Miki…
